About CPAB

The Canadian Public Accountability Board is Canada’s recognized source of timely reporting on auditor oversight and audit quality. We contribute to thought leadership on enhancing audit quality through resources, insights, tools, research, outreach and communication. We also act as a catalyst for dialogue and engagement among key stakeholders on audit quality issues, domestically and globally.

Effective regulation, proactive engagement, sustainable solutions.

CPAB’s Board of Directors has overall responsibility for supervising the management of CPAB's activities and affairs.

CPAB’s 2016-2018 strategic plan builds on our progress to further enhance our effectiveness and address systemic barriers to audit quality to drive sustainable, high quality audits.

To promote quality auditing and protect the investing public, we engage with our counterparts around the world.

We primarily assess the quality of audits through the inspection of selected high-risk sections of audit files and an assessment of the six elements of quality control.

CPAB was created in 2003 as part of a series of reforms designed to improve investor confidence.

CPAB’s Executive Team manages the organization’s operations and activities.

CPAB’s Rules govern the conduct of CPAB’s oversight program and provide the compliance framework for CPAB’s participating firms.

In addition to National Instrument - 52-108 – Auditor Oversight, several Canadian provinces and territories have enacted auditor oversight legislation.
