In December 2011 the Canadian Public Accountability Board held its first annual Audit Quality Symposium “Challenge and Change: Auditing in the Decade Ahead”. The Symposium brought together thought leaders and policy makers from Canada and around the world to discuss issues related to auditing and was attended by audit firms, regulators, audit committee members, CFOs, investors and academics. A number of audit policy proposals were discussed at the Symposium including the European Commission proposals for regulation on the quality of audits and the PCAOB concept releases on auditor reporting, auditor independence and firm rotation. The Symposium presented research on Audit Committee perspectives on audit quality, and leading Audit Committee members discussed key changes in practice that will enhance audit quality.
